all souls day

We went to Tagum on Saturday 1st of November to attend the Filipino tradition of visiting the graves of the departed, in this case Ann's Dad, deceased Jan 2004, anyway it is more like what we would think of a carnival in fact there was a carnival atmosphere, games, sleeping, eating and later drunken behaviour and fighting...well not for us of course. We attended in the early afternoon, much too hot and then that wa san excuse with Annika to leave. Then a thunderous rain all afternoon, until evening, we were well away.

Arnel stayed until 1am the next morning as is their tradition in a vigil to his Mum who died a short few months ago, Ann wants to do a vigil for her Dad next year, i will be dodging that one i can tell you, now i have been warned.

Tagum is about 65kms away, 1.5 hour drive and quite rural, done it now many times, its a small town / city but not the place for me, its a bit dull for me to be honest. Me and Mum survived...birthday coming up....

An interesting tradition, why not eh? Respect for the departed is highly appropriate, not that sure about the fighting, must have been fuelled by booze. Cheers Andy.
